Indonesia adds e-cigarettes and e-liquids to inflation basket

According to Bloomberg, Indonesia includes e-cigarettes and e-liquids in its inflation basket, which is a collection of goods and services used to calculate the consumer price index.

Statistics Indonesia said the change will update the composition of Indonesia's consumption basket to reflect changes in technology, income and people's consumption patterns, especially after the outbreak.

Other new additions include masks, hand sanitizer, television receivers and fares for Jakarta's recently opened MRT lines. Online shopping for men's and women's shoes, Muslim clothing, mobile phones and perfume will also be tracked in five major cities including Jakarta, Bogor and Surabaya.

Items such as TV aerials, DVDs and printed magazines were also removed from the basket.

Indonesia is one of the largest tobacco markets in the world. E-cigarettes have become increasingly popular in recent years, especially in urban areas.
