Malaysia will submit new tobacco control bill at the end of November

According to news from The Star on November 19, the Malaysian Health Minister confirmed that the "Public Health Smoking Products Control Bill 2023" (GEG) will be submitted before the end of the current parliamentary session on November 30.

GEG seeks to ban the use of tobacco and vaping products by anyone born on or after January 1, 2007.

Although Health Minister Dr Zamliha Mustafa confirmed the plan, Attorney-General Ahmad Triruddin Mohamad Salleh said the bill violated Article 8 of the Malaysian Constitution as it This creates an unequal treatment before the law between those born before that date and those born after that date.
