South Korea's KT&G signs power purchase agreement to promote carbon neutrality practices

According to Korean media newsworker, KT&G has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) in order to achieve carbon neutrality.

According to reports, PPA is a system in which users purchase electricity from renewable energy power generation companies, and KT&G has recently signed a purchase agreement with SK E&S to supply renewable electricity.

The signing of this agreement means that KT&G will replace 7.5% of its total electricity usage with renewable electricity, which is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 6,640 tons. KT&G will expand the use of renewable energy through further signing of PPA. In addition to introducing PPA, KT&G is also installing solar power stations in idle spaces such as manufacturing factory roofs and parking lots, and consuming the renewable energy they generate. Thanks to the above efforts, the renewable energy usage rate of all enterprises will increase from 0.1% in 2020 to 15.6% in 2022. It is expected to have reached more than 20% last year.

A KT&G official said, "The company is committed to supporting the global movement 'RE100 (Renewable Energy 100)' that will require 100% of the electricity used by companies to be renewable energy by 2050." He also pointed out that the company will actively promote the expansion of the use of renewable energy and Contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and achieving carbon neutrality.
