According to a report by Anadolu Agency on December 23, the Narcotics and Organized Crime Bureau of the Istanbul Municipal Public Security Bureau and the regional police stations have made a major breakthrough in their joint operation to combat the smuggling of tobacco products.
It is reported that during this operation, the police conducted large-scale searches at a series of pre-identified addresses. Through efficient and accurate operations, a large number of smuggled tobacco products and related equipment were seized. Specifically, they include 176,340 cigarette papers filled with tobacco, 229,400 empty tobacco tubes, 332 kilograms of tobacco, 3.55 kilograms of hookah tobacco, and 20 cigarette rolling machines.
In addition, the police also seized 215 tobacco sales licenses, 50 e-cigarettes, and 30 bottles of e-cigarette oil. In view of the violent crimes derived from smuggling activities, the police also seized two unlicensed pistols, 600 rounds of ammunition, and some illegally carried knives.
In this rigorous and orderly operation, a total of 33 suspects suspected of engaging in tobacco smuggling were arrested by the police.
